Listed companies to display CIN on bourse website, says BSE
BSE asked companies to display unique corporate identification on its website
Mumbai: The BSE has asked all listed companies to display their unique corporate identification on its website, a move that would help in improving transparency. All listed entities are now required to display the Corporate Identification Number (CIN) on the BSE website. This unique number helps in submitting the requisite documents under the companies law to the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
According to the bourse, it has decided to disseminate CIN of listed companies through the website. "Listed companies are hereby informed that the exchange is disseminating the CIN on the respective companies' web page on the exchange website under the head corporate information section," BSE said in a recent circular. CIN is a combination of many elements, including the year of incorporation of a company.
Besides, the number also indicates under which Registrar of Company the particular entity is registered. For a listed company, CIN would start with the letter 'L' and for unlisted entities, the number would begin with the letter 'U'. In recent times, market regulator Sebi as well as exchanges have been taking various steps to disseminate information about listed companies, as part of efforts to help investors make well-informed decisions.
