Begumpet link road to open soon
Project will bring down the distance between the areas for commuters by around 2.5 km
Hyderabad: The much-awaited Begumpet-Fatehnagar-Suprabhatnagar link road, which had turned into a parking lot for years, will be operational in the coming weeks.
The project will bring down the distance between the areas for commuters by around 2.5 km.
The bridge opposite Varun Motors splits into two roads, one of which leads to Fatehnagar and the other one leads to Suprabhatnagar.
Meanwhile, there are concerns about the entry to the link road in Begumpet turning into a traffic bottleneck when used as it is — a narrow single lane road. The number of vehicles expected to take the link road as a shortcut is also very high and this could turn into a traffic problem.
GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “The major issues that caused the delay has been resolved. This link, which had been pending for the last seven years, will now be operational. The project cost was initially Rs 22 crore. However, the total cost went up to Rs 45 crore as the civic body had to pay the South Central Railway since the bridge crossed over a rail track. About the narrow lane entry, the GHMC is working on a better entry to the link bridge. Around 11 houses that are hindering it, but they too will be removed soon. Another round of discussions will be held with the Hyderabad traffic department once the bridge is operational to identify congestion junctions.”
The directions for the use of the link road:
For commuters coming from Secunderabad: While one lane of the two-km long link road begins from behind Sri Hanuman temple in Begumpet, another starts at the Katta Maisamma temple next to Hyderabad Public School and connects Balkampet and Fatehnagar flyover. Motorists from Secunderabad going towards Fatehnagar can use the lane abutting Varun Motors at the beginning of Greenlands flyover, go underneath the flyover to reach the road-underbridge connecting the link road behind Hanuman temple.
Commuters from the opposite direction, proceeding to Secunderabad from Balkampet and the Sanatnagar side can directly use the link road connecting HPS road adjacent to the Katta Maisamma temple.
