Bengaluru: To combat terrorism and to tackle any emergencies across the state, the state police are now armed with a new internal security wing – Centre for Counter-Terrorism (CCT), which was inaugurated in Kudlu on Tuesday. The centre will train personnel for the District Special Weapons and Tactical Team (D-SWAT).

Home Minister K.J. George, inaugurating the centre, said, “It is being launched to protect civilians from any kind of attacks."

Each D-SWAT team will have 24 members, who will be trained with the skills of the elite National Security Guards. The training of trainers (ToT) programmes will be imparted by Garuda Force to all the probationer sub-inspectors from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), civil deputy SPs and other staff from various forces in the state.

The teams will be monitored by the Superintendent of Police, and they will be armed with advanced weapons. They will undergo rigorous commando training at the CCT for over three months.

The trained men will be physically and mentally fit to tackle any dangerous situation. The first batch of 42 men, who have been picked from various districts and other forces, will be trained under the ToT programme. Later, they will take charge of SWAT teams in their respective districts, an official said.

“We are aiming at training 2000 personnel in two years,” he said.
