Husband had allegedly started demanding additional dowry
Hyderabad: A woman was burnt to death, allegedly by her husband and in-laws, on Tuesday afternoon in Ramachandrapuram of Medak district for additional dowry. The 24-year-old victim, A. Swathi, had married Naveen Kumar in 2011 and her family gave Rs 7 lakh cash and 50 gm gold as dowry. After the marriage, the couple lived in a joint family in Macs Society, RC Puram. Sources said while things were fine initially, after some time Naveen started harassing Swathi over petty issues. Recently, he had allegedly started demanding additional dowry of Rs 5 lakh.
According to the police, Swathi refused to get additional dowry from her parents’ house. The couple had frequent arguments over the issue. After one such argument on Tuesday afternoon, the accused poured kerosene on Swathi and set her ablaze. The neighbors rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to the Gandhi Hospital where she died of 100 per cent burns. Swathi’s family lodged a complaint against Naveen, his parents Kalavathi and Srinivasa Chary, his siblings Vinod and Buchamma and her husband Srinivas. Based on the complaint, a murder case was registered and is being investigated.
