Just 4 Kannada students among CET toppers!
'Students who studied in the government-run schools are lagging behind'
Bengaluru: Amid the many complaints over the poor quality of teaching in the government-run Kannada medium schools, comes another shocker for those who are batting for the Kannada medium schools. The results of the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2014 (Medical). According to sources at the Karnataka Examination Authority, (KEA), just 4 students from Kannada medium managed to get a place among the top 500 in the CET medical admission test. The CET 2014 results were announced on May 27.
The CET medical examination is conducted for admissions to the government medical colleges and government quota seats in the private medical colleges of the state. According to officials, on Monday, document verification of students who got rankings between 1 to 1000 was done in 13 helpline centers set up across the state. As per the document verification data, just four students from Kannada medium are on the list of top 500 CET medical rankers.
"Everyone’s talking about poor enrollment ratio in the Kannada medium schools in the state. But the fact is that in today's world, due to the poor quality of education and absence of modern teaching modules, students who studied in the government-run schools are lagging behind in all the admission tests in comparision with other boards.’’ "Even in the CET exam conducted by the state government, Kannada medium students are faring below expectations.’’ “There is an urgent need for introspection on this point to eradicate the problem. Students who studied in other boards/ mediums are doing extremely well," said an officer.
