Rape survivor tries to immolate herself

Jaipur: A minor girl tried to immolate self after she was raped by her neighbour in Jaipur on Wednesday. She sustained 50 per cent burns but said to be out of danger now.

The 14-year-old girl, who studies in Class VIII, told the police about the incident after she regained consciousness late on Wednesday night following which the accused Manish, 25, was arrested.

Manish works as a medical representative in and lives in a house, adjacent to the girl’s place, on rent.

According to the police, the girl had gone to Manish’s room seeking his mobile phone to talk to her father. When she went to return the phone, Manish dragged her inside and raped her. He later threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

After coming back, the girl set herself on fire. However, her siblings saved her.
