Rape attempt on medical student in Hyderabad; police arrest culprit
Victim resisted the rape by shouting and pushing away the 19-year-old accused
Hyderabad: A bellhop attempted to rape a 24-year-old medical graduate at a private guesthouse in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Hailing from Karnataka, the victim resisted the rape by shouting and pushing away the 19-year-old accused. The accused was later arrested after the woman raised an alarm and informed the police.
The accused, Paramanand Mandal, a native of Odisha, took advantage of the victim’s unlocked door and entered it while she was sleeping at about 2.45 am.
“She woke up hearing a sound and found a person inside her room. As she woke up, he tried to hold her down forcefully and started molesting her. She resisted the attempt shouting for help and pushing him away,” said West Zone DCP Mr. V. Satyanarayana.
After the woman refused to give in, the accused ran out of the room.
“He evaded other employees and a guard at the reception, and ran out of the guest house. The woman alerted dial 100 soon, and our patrolling team caught Paramanand in few hours,” said the DCP.
Police said that the victim, came to Hyderabad to prepare for PG medical entrance examination, and was staying at the guesthouse.
“Her friends had been coming to the room to study with her. Paramanand, who had met her had planned to exploit her after noticing that her friends had left,” said a police official.
Police have booked a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
