Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here on Saturday suspended the four personnel security officers who fled from the encounter site leaving SP Nitya Nanda Goswami and another PSO behind, who died fighting heavily armed KPLT rebels on Thursday night.

Goswami, despite having very few security forces, decided to chase the militants to their hideouts but his PSOs backed out and fled leaving the SP and one of his PSOs engaged in a fierce gun-battle.

Mr Gogoi said, “We have asked the chief secretary to hold an enquiry and find out the circumstances in which two brave officers were killed.”

He added, “If necessary, we have no problem in asking for a CBI probe to to find those responsible for any lapses.”

The family members of Goswami, accused alleged that rampant corruption in transfer and posting of police officers forced the SP to remain posted in trouble-torn areas of the state despite being at the verge of retirement.

Rekha Goswami, his wife, said her husband was posted in trouble-torn areas of Karbi Anglong  for a majority of his career.

Pointing out that Goswami who served in the air force before joining the Assam Police, family members said, he was set to retire in 2016 and at this age he was posted to fight insurgency.

In the police circle Karbi Anglong is considered as place for punishment posting.
