10 killed as truck smashes auto near Vemulawada
Lorry collides head-on with autorickshaw carrying family
Vemulawada: Ten people, including eight of a family, died after the autorickshaw in which they were travelling, collided with a sand-laden lorry on the Karimnagar-Vemulawada highway on Monday.
Sircilla DSP Damera Narsaiah said the victims, all residents of Vardhannapet mandal in Warangal district, were on their way to Vemulawada temple when a truck bound to Karimnagar collided head-on with their vehicle near Arepalli village killing all the 10 people, including the autorickshaw driver, on the spot.
The autorickshaw got mangled completely in the collision.
Apart from hitting the seven-seater autorickshaw, the truck dragged the vehicle for 100 yards.
The deceased are Kanuguri Komura Mallaiah, 60, his wife Kasavva, 55, their son Ramesh, 26, who recently married Anita, 22, Mallaiah’s daughter Rani, 28, son-in-law Veda Sanjay Kumar, 30, and their one-year-old twins — Manoj and Swetha — and the driver Sambari Siva Kumar, 30.
Another person who died in the mishap has not been identified. SP Siva Kumar rushed to the accident spot. Traffic was disrupted for a long time due to the mishap.
