Cops should be considerate
Police is not taking measures to improve the conviction rate
The figures of rape cases that R.R. Patil has given are true. In fact, we have found that in 94 per cent of the rape cases, relatives are involved. But the main issue is what is the police doing to protect the girl? I want to ask the police do they protect a girl when she says her father or brother has raped her? There is no mechanism to protect her. We have to understand her plight. Even if she makes a complaint to the police, she has to stay in the same house with the culprit. No wonder that the conviction rate in these cases is so low, and this should be highlighted. However, the police is not taking measures to improve the conviction rate. Also, there are no efforts from the police’s side to support the victim.
I will not completely blame the media for women’s portrayal. We all know that the media is backed by corporate houses and will show anything that makes money. But does the government have any will to regulate it? Also, when we talk about censorship, there is an issue about freedom of the individual. There is also another side to the obscene images of wo-men that are said to provoke the decline in morality. Rape is not committed because of images. Rape is a deeper question and we need to think about it intensely.
