Telangana district codes to be finalised
The district codes are expected to be finalised by Thursday
Hyderabad: Speaking on the new vehicle registrations, transport minister P. Mahender Reddy on Wednesday said, “I was told that all existing numbers with AP code would change. The district codes will also change. But the officials are yet to finalise the district codes.”
When asked how the new registration numbers would be allotted from Thursday without district codes, he said, “Officials have told me that everything will be in place by Thursday. We will display the new district codes at all RTAs.”
The Centre had earlier notified the ‘TG’ series for the Telangana state. However, the transport department had written to the Centre asking for ‘TS’ following CM K. Chandrashekar Rao’s suggestion.
Though no official reason was cited for this change, it is being rumoured that Mr Rao was swayed by numerology.
With this, the Centre issued a revised notification on Wednesday allotting the ‘TS’ code to Telangana.
Vendors will see a huge business as lakhs of motorists will be forced to change their number plates by spending a minimum of Rs 500 for two-wheelers and up to Rs 2,000 for four-wheelers.
