'K-Pop' hits the capital

A Korean music festival,incorporating different music styles will be held in Delhi

New Delhi: A Korean music festival,incorporating a mix of dance, ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop and R&B among other styles of pop music is scheduled to be held in the city soon. Organised by the Korean Cultural Centre, part of the Korean Embassy the 'K-POP' festival, which is currently in its third edition is set to be held on August 30 here according to organisers. Apart from the national capital, Mumbai, Chennai and Dimapur are the other cities, which will play host to the festival.

The festival is currently seeking applications for participation from aspiring singers and dancers who can send in videos of their performances to organisers. For participation and other necessary details, applicants can visit the website www.kpopindia.com and send in details till June 13.

K-POP, which originated in South Korea is now like a sub culture throughout Asia and spread out to areas like Central and South America. Korean singer Psy became a sensation a few years ago with his Gagnam style dance which went viral and created a following all over the world. Incidentally, Psy recently released his new video "Hallyu", with American rapper Snoop Dogg.

"K-POP fever has amplified in India and we were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the people last year. We are expecting K-POP 2014 to be one of the most sensational events of the year 'Korean Wave' has helped built craze for K-POP sensation across the world," says Kim Kum Pyoung, Director, Korean Cultural Centre.

Pyoung adds, "It's the ultimate platform to showcase the talent and personality of very gifted performer chosen from all corners of India!" Meanwhile, winning teams at the upcoming festival would
be awarded an all expenses paid trip to South Korea sponsored by the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) and Korea Tourist Organization (KTO).

They will also get an opportunity to perform in the K-POP World Festival in Changwon, organisers said.
