Venkaiah Naidu and Narayana holding the same ministry in Centre and AP
Nellore: With P. Narayana becoming urban development minister in Andhra Pradesh and Venkaiah Naidu holding the same ministry at the Centre, people of Nellore district are anticipating faster growth in all the areas.
There are also high hopes on the establishment of Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) to expand Nellore City and ensure systematic development.
"The city is in bad need of underground drainage system. Although the government had given its nod for Rs 790 Crore underground drainage
scheme and Rs 450 Crore water supply scheme, the sanction is yet to be obtained.
The two ministers may use their powers to clear these schemes" Nellore Municipal Corporation Commissioner D.John Samson said when asked about pending projects.
According to the Commissioner modernization of all the irrigation channels passing through Nellore City is most important for proper
functioning of underground drainage system. He added that the chaneels should be integrated with the drainage system.
Referring to Rs 19 Crore sanctioned under Indira Awas Yozna scheme, Mr Samson said that the amount is also yet to be released. He said that
they have identified Sundaraiah Colony A and B blocks for the implementation of the scheme.
Responding to a question, he said that the Civic body had not received funds granted under 13th Finance Commission so far.
Nellore may be developed as Metropolitan region since it is well connected by road, rail port and airport, Mr Samson said pointing to
the national highway, Krishnapatnam Port, railway line connecting south and north besides proximity to international airport at Chennai and domestic airport at Renigunta.
Former Corporator Sannapareddy Penchal Reddy said that people living in the City and the Outskirts of Nellore strongly believe that their
areas are certain to develop because both Venkaiah Naidu and Narayana are visionaries and natives of Nellore. Both are well aware about the
needs of the district and they are in a position to address them now, Penchal Reddy asserted.
