More cops needed for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
AP and Telangana police need three more new batallions of special police each
Hyderabad: AP and Telangana police need three more new batallions of special police each, according to the top cops. A senior official of AP Police said, “The need for three more batallions each has been identified and put forth before various committees during bifurcation.
The Centre has promised to help to raise these batallions for both the states. In view of law and order and security arrangements this is needed.” Police said that AP Special Police has more men from Andhra Pradesh than Telangana. “If all AP policemen are sent back to the state of AP, then Andhra Pradesh will have a good strength while Telangana will face a shortage. APSP has been a state level police force,” said the police official.
AP police do not have a training centre for Octopus the anti terror commandos on the lines of that being constructed at Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy district. AP Police is likely to have a combined unit for both Greyhounds and Octopus. “After establishing the basic police infrastructure we should go for high end policing like Greyhounds and Octopus,” said a police official.
