Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao: Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver stands
Non agri-related activities would not be eligible for the waiver
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday categorically stated on the floor of the House that only crop loans of up to Rs 1 lakh would be waived as promised in the TRS election manifesto.
He emphasised that the TRS had never promised that all farm loans would be waived, as is being made out by the Opposition parties. He clarified that the party had only promised crop loan waiver.
However, he did not mention anything about fixing a one-year time limit, from June 2013 to June 2014, for extending the benefit as proposed during a meeting with bankers last week.
It is now clear that loans availed by farmers by pledging gold or for other agri-related activities like livestock, fishing etc, or long-term loans taken to purchase tractors and other agricultural equipment, would not be eligible for the waiver.
