TRS, TD debate Polavaram tangle in Telangana assembly
TRS and TDP members had a heated conversation on Polavaram ordinance
Hyderabad: The Polavaram ordinance issue led to a heated arguments between Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and TD members in the Assembly on Thursday.
TD members E. Dayakar Rao and A. Revanth Reddy alleged that the Centre issued a Polavaram ordinance merging some Telangana mandals with Seemandhra because the TRS failed to take up the issue when the UPA government placed it for approval in Lok Sabha.
They said the TRS, which remained a mute spectator on the Polavaram issue during the UPA rule, is now trying to derive political mileage by blaming the TD and the BJP for it.
To this, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao retorted, “Polavaram ordinance was issued because of pressure tactics adopted by Mr Chandrababu Naidu. He brought pressure on Mr Modi and ensured that the ordinance is issued through backdoor. The TRS strongly opposed the ordinance right from the UPA rule. We objected by writing letters to former PM Manmohan Singh and for that reason the ordinance was stopped. After the NDA came into power, it issued an ordinance in its first Cabinet meeting because of Mr Naidu’s pressure.”
We gave Telangana bandh call against this despite being a ruling party. Naidu insulted me by saying 'who are you' to oppose ordinance though I am the CM."
KCR stated that his government was not against Polavaram project but has been only demanding that it's design has to be changed and withdraw meger of Telangana mandals in Seemandhra region.
"All the people of Telangana mandals are unitedly opposing their merger into Seemandhra. It's a democracy. No government can go against the wishes of people. Any government should respect the sentiments of people and act accordingly. We will not accept merger of Telangana mandals in Seemandhra region to enable Polavaram. We will go to any extent to stop this," KCR said.
