Hyderabad set to be WiFi city, IT hub soon
Government tying up with IT majors to make Hyderabad WiFi city soon
Hyderabad: The TRS government is planning to bring IT industry and professional engineering colleges closer for industry-college tie-up to make tailor-made courses and to make graduates job- ready. Plans are also afoot to make Hyderabad a WiFi city soon.
IT and panchayat raj minister, K.T. Rama Rao held preliminary talks with captains of IT industry and modalities are being worked out to a continuous tie-up between IT industry and professional engineering colleges.
“There is a gap between industry requirement and colleges churning out thousands of graduates annually. What we found was that many engineering colleges are not attuned to industry requirement. In the process, only a handful of graduates among thousands are employable,” said Mr Rao.
Asked about the future plans, he said the government was thinking of having some kind of a consortium of industry and consortium of engineering colleges in Telangana to interact and have tie-up for mutual benefit.
There are about 240 engineering colleges providing various courses including IT, BT, ECE, EEE, mechanical, civil and other courses in Telangana.
According to Mr Rao, there would be huge demand for skilled graduates in various spheres including IT, especially after the ITIR project is launched in Telangana.
“IT industry requires specialised graduates. If the training is good at college level, things will be easy for the students to get jobs. It also helps IT industry in getting skilled manpower. We have huge human resources and it should be channelised properly,” he added.
Mr Rao said they are working out modalities with both IT industry and engineering colleges for a tie-up.
“I think it will take a shape by month end. Many IT companies have shown interest and did the engineering colleges,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr Rama Rao told a group of industrialists that the government would strive to make Hyderabad an international city with all the infrastructure.
Participating in meeting organised by Round Table, India titled “Hyderabad, the road ahead”, Mr Rao said Hyderabad is the destination for investment due to its industry friendly environment and the government would provide needed facilities.
