Jayalalithaa pushes Prime Minister on river board
Jaya wrote toPM after Uma Bharti said the proposal for setting up the Board was never there
Chennai: Irked at the comments made by Union minister for water resources Ms Uma Bharti who contended that there was no proposal to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) on Thursday, chief minister Jayalalithaa shot off another missive to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that it was mandatory for the Centre to establish the CMB.
The Union minister’s comment came after an all-party delegation from Karnataka led by the chief minister of the state submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This memorandum which is replete with prevarications and misleading statements is aimed at making the Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal itself nugatory. This is something which I could not ignore,” Jayalalithaa stated in her letter. The chief minister clearly highlighted in her letter that the constitution of the CMB was not optional but an integral part of the final order itself which has been notified.
