Mumbai: In an ugly incident that occurred on Saturday evening, a 45-year old man was badly beaten up in the middle of the road. The assaulters were in a BMW and both of them were in their mid-30s, according to the victim’s description.

The victim, Vistasp Kharas, an interior designer by profession, was approaching the Axis Bank signal towards Turner Road in Bandra at around 6 pm, when he had to stop his car at the signal. While he was waiting for the signal to turn green, he saw someone from inside a BMW throw an empty can of Coke on the road.

Recalling the incident, Mr Kharas said, “I got off my car, picked up the can and approached the BMW driver. I asked him ‘Have you lost this?’ He told me, ‘No, I just threw it out’. I told him ‘Do you think it’s cool to throw trash right in the middle of the road?’, to which he just gave an angry response. I saw that my words were having no impact on him. So I walked back to my car with the can and got in. Soon after he came to my car and started hitting on the window. When I rolled it down, he slapped me. I wanted to get out of the car and as I was stepping out, he started to punch me. He fractured my nose and hit me on my stomach, throat and cheek. I had no choice but to defend myself. Then his friend came and hit me from behind. By then, a crowd had gathered and people began to intervene. but the signal had turned green and the two got in their car and drove off. They looked like they were in their mid-30s.” The victim has got multiple stitches on his lips and inside his mouth. He has also suffered concussions in his head, stomach, neck and shoulder.

A police patrol vehicle that was in the vicinity reached the spot and the police asked Mr Kharas to go to a hospital and get himself treated as his nose was bleeding profusely. “I did that and then filed an FIR. at the Bandra Police Station. I had managed to take down the BMW’s number and gave the same to the police.”
No arrest has been made so far.

“A case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt was registered late on Saturday night and we have got the registration number of the car but it being a Sunday we could not find out about the owner. But we will get the details of owner of the car on Monday and law will take its course,” said senior inspector of police Ramchandra Dhawale.
