Nirmala Sitharaman to file Rajya Sabha papers on June 21

Hyderabad: Union minister of state for commerce and finance Nirmala Sitharaman will file her nomination for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from AP on June 21.

Earlier in the day, the BJP Parliamentary Board formally endorsed the candidature of Ms Sitharaman for the lone Rajya Sabha seat that fell vacant due to the death of former chief minister N. Janardhana Reddy. The election would be declared unanimous as both the TD and BJP enjoy a majority in the AP Assembly. Talking to this newspaper she said, “I am thankful to the BJP Central leadership for choosing me as a candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls. I will be filing the papers on Saturday.”
