Beas tragedy: 3 students’ bodies brought to Hyderabad

One of the victims Kiran Kumar had rescued three students before being swept away

Hyderabad: Two weeks after the tragedy in Beas river, bodies of three victims, B. Ritwik Rao, M. Kiran Kumar, and Ch. Parameswar were brought to Hyderabad on Monday. Bodies of Kiran and Parameswar were later taken to their native places in Khammam and Warangal and Kiran’s last rites were performed in Khammam on Monday.

B. Ritwik Rao, 19, a brilliant student of second year, B.Tech EIE batch, was known in VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute for his leadership qualities. “He was the vice-chairman of institute’s convergence fest last year. He had been working hard for the upcoming fest of this academic year earning many sponsorships for the programme,” said his classmate and a mishap survivor Khetan.

Ritwik, who was a resident old Nallakunta, was a close friend of another Beas victim Devashish Bose. The second student, M. Kiran Kumar, had rescued three students by pushing them towards banks before being swept away in the swirling water. VNR college students have said that they would request the government to honour Kiran with a posthumous bravery award.

“Kiran had rescued students before he got drowned. We would request the government to honour his memories,” said K. Kavya, a senior student from VNR college. Kiran, who was a native of Khammam, was one of the student coordinators for the excursion that turned into a tragedy.

The third victim, Ch. Parameswar, who was known as Paramesh Naani, was a native of Warangal. A day before the mishap, Prameswar had updated his Facebook status as “Feeling happy. Having so much fun with friends. Time to break the borders of enjoyment”. While seven more students are still missing in Beas river, the classes for the new academic year for the tragedy struck  batch will start from July 7.
