Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday summoned officials of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) regarding the fuel shortage being faced in some districts for the last few days.
Officials from the OMCs met finance minister Etela Rajender at the Secretariat and explained the reasons for the fuel shortage and measures being taken to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Officials informed the minister that the bifurcation had forced the OMCs to modify the jurisdiction of fuel stock points in both the states leading to disruption of supplies. They said fuel had to come from Vizag via Vijayawada to Telangana districts and the Andhra Pradesh officials were asking for taxes at the inter-state borders.

As there was no clarity over who had to bear the tax, the OMCs or the dealers the transport of fuel was halted for a few days, leading to shortage of supplies.

It was finally decided that the dealers would bear the tax, which would be ultimately passed on to the consumers. This will make petrol costlier in Telangana districts. Though it will not be reflected immediately, it will be felt when the fuel prices are revised early in July.
