Samsung selfishly launches a higher version of the Galaxy S5 in Korea
The new Galaxy S5 features a 2560 x 1440 pixel WQHD display and SD 805 SoC
Samsung has launched a new version of the Galaxy S5, which features a WQHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2650 x 1440 pixels. The New S5 also features the latest SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 805 chipset. Unfortunately, the new Galaxy S5 is only available in Korea and not around the globe.
The phone is named Samsung Galaxy S5 Broadband LTE-A SM-G906S
What’s different from the conventional Galaxy S5 you may ask—it is the internal SoC chipset and the higher resolution display. The older Galaxy S5 sports a regular Super AMOLED full HD display at 1080x1920 pixels, while the new variant features the Super AMOLED WQHD display with a resolution of 1440x2650 pixels.
The Older Samsung Galaxy S5 is built using the Snapdragon 801 chipset, which features a Krait 400 processor and an Adreno 330 graphics chip. The new Snapdragon 805 chipset is faster (in terms of gaming) and features the Krait 450 processor and an Adreno 420 graphics processor.
The Adreno 420 graphics chip is capable of higher-level gaming performances at 1440p instead of the Adreno 330 which can do the same performance at 1080p.
The new Samsung Galaxy S5 variant also features the first 20nm modem. It includes an MDM9x35 modem, a category 6 LTE, which can support up to 300 Mb/s speeds.
It seems pretty unfair on Samsung’s part to launch better smartphones in specific countries rather than around the world. One would definitely want a higher definition display variant along with a faster chipset, even though their country does not yet support faster LTE internet speeds.
The rest of the Galaxy S5 features are similar to the ones available in the international version.
