Andhra Pradesh goes to Governor on Telangana fee stand
Telangana government reiterated that it would reimburse the fee of state students
Hyderabad: AP minister Ganta Srinivas Rao on Tuesday asked Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to intervene immediately after the Telangana government reiterated that it would reimburse the fee of only those students who actually hail from Telangana.
Mr Rao, the AP human resource development minister, said the issue was creating a lot of confusion, especially since counselling for engineering courses was set to commence from Sunday.
Submitting a memorandum to the Governor, Mr Rao asked him to ensure that students who are deemed to be locals in Telangana as per the current norms are covered under the scheme.
Mr Rao said that it was “reliably learnt” that the Telangana government was contemplating imposing the condition for post-matric scholarships that not only should the children be local, but also that their parents should belong to Telangana. “In case the parents belong to Andhra-Rayalaseema, they will be denied scholarship,” Mr Rao said in the memorandum.
