Delhi University colleges fall in line with UGC
Majority of the colleges have decided to bypass the university and directly abide by the UGC directive
New Delhi: The standoff between Delhi University and the UGC continued on Tuesday as the higher education watchdog issued a fresh directive to DU colleges to go back to the three-year degree course. A majority of the colleges have decided to bypass the university and directly abide by the UGC directive.
The UGC said the colleges which agreed to implement the three-year degree programme include St. Stephen’s, Hindu College, Jesus and Mary, Miranda House, Sri Venkateswara, Lady Sri Ram College and SRCC.
Tuesday saw a series of puzzling announcements, including one on the resignation of Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh. Mr Singh, who had refused to scrap FYUP, is said to have submitted his resignation a day after the UGC asked the university to scrap the FYUP. DU media coordinator Malay Neerav had informed the media, through an SMS, that the VC had resigned.
Mr Singh remained inaccessible after claims and counter-claims about his resignation emerged. The university, however, clarified later that the VC will be staying on in his post.
