‘Destiny’ will have exclusive content for PlayStation owners: report
A multiplayer map, three ships and a handful of guns will be added in this game
Mumbai: Earlier this month, Bungie announced that their upcoming first person shooter Destiny will have exclusive content for PlayStation owners. Aside from an Alpha test and a head start for the Destiny Beta, version, both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners will get a unique strike mission, a competitive multiplayer map, three additional ships and a handful of guns, equipments etc. This is a part of the deal Sony and Bungie have with regards to what could very well be the best selling game of the year. While it will eventually release on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, it’s rumoured to be a timed exclusive till 2015.
Instead of a big third party exclusive, apart for Titanfall, it seems like both Sony and Microsoft are trying extremely hard to get exclusive content for their platforms. At E3, we got to know that the Xbox One version of Tom Clancy’s The Division, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Evolve will include additional content which will not be available on any other platform after the launch.
This comes off as a surprise because I don’t think exclusive DLC is a major factor in driving sales. Consumers don’t buy another system just to play extra DLC and for people who own both consoles, convenience and the platform their friends prefer is far more important. Watch Dogs on PS4 sold twice as many copies when compared to the Xbox One version, but no one really cared about the extra one hour of missions included in the game.
The fact that Watch Dogs was being marketed as a PlayStation 4 game, trumps that. This extra DLC isn’t very good either and the Assassin’s Creed franchise is the best example of this. Sure, it gives the owners of one console the illusion of choosing the “right console”, but in reality it doesn’t make sense.
