FIFA World Cup 2014: Suarez bite is worse than his kick
Uruguay’s star forward’s biting episode may get him 2-yr ban
Rio de Janeiro: Star forward Luiz Suarez’s World Cup could be over before Uruguay kick off their last-16 match against Colombia on Saturday. He faces a lengthy ban for biting Italian defender Georgio Chiellini in a Group D match on Tuesday.
A Fifa probe is already on. The world football governing body has asked Suarez and the Uruguayan FA to argue their case before 5 pm (local time) on Wednesday. Fifa has to give its judgement before Uruguay’s next match.
As per Fifa’s disciplinary code, the maximum punishment could be 24 matches or two years. The offence committed by Suarez may not warrant the severe punishments mentioned but he is unlikely to take any further part in the World Cup in Brazil.
His canine instincts got the better of him once again as he needlessly sank his teeth into the shoulder of Chiellini. He tried to play the victim in front of unsuspecting fans but castiron video evidence has exposed him.
The possible absence of their talisman has demoralised Uruguay. Suarez is as important to his country as Lionel Messi is to Argentina. He was in his element after spending a month getting a knee problem repaired as he scored both the goals in his country’s 2-1 win over England here.
