Chennai: Theatre artiste and actor Salony is on cloud nine as her first debut film in K’town, Sarabham, is scheduled for release in July.  The audio launch of the film, which was held in the city recently, had reporters observing that Salony resembled Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. “I am happy when people say that,” she laughs.

Having been a theatre actress in Delhi, Salony says that she considers herself lucky to have got a call from C.V Kumar to audition for the film. She was competing against 99 other girls, “and they cast me in the role,” she says, not knowing until then that C.V Kumar’s was a big banner and this would be a dream debut for her. “Director Arun Mohan also said that he chose me as I would perfectly fit the role,” she says.

It’s a performance oriented role, she says, one that has different shades and the film has a strong script with  every actor having performed well. “It’s a crime thriller,” is all she will say.

Speaking of her comfort level within the Tamil film industry, she says, “Here, even top stars are very down-to-earth, and we can learn much from them. Also, I love the language, and right from the first day, I have been trying to learn it properly and attending a few workshops on it before the shoot started. Shooting was the toughest part,” she recounts, as it was done in 30 days, with five consecutive days without sleep. This too was not so difficult because the entire team was helpful and she got pampered like a child on the sets. Naveen Chandra plays the male lead in the film. Salony is now listening to a few scripts in Tamil, having already signed two films in Bollywood under big banners.
