Mumbai:  10 policemen working at the same police station in Mumbai have been accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and murdering a 25-year-old man they had arrested.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case, however the cops have not been arrested yet.

Earlier in April, Agnelo Valdaris was found dead on the train tracks near the Wadala railway station in central Mumbai. He was arrested by the cops in a case of theft.

The police claimed that he had been run over by a train while trying to flee from the police station where he was being interrogated.

However, his family contended that he was stripped, sexually molested and tortured resulting in his death.

Policemen were unable to provide CCTV footage that they earlier claimed showed Agnelo running away from the station.

Statistics indicated that 23 per cent of all custodial deaths occurred in Maharashtra.
