8 people killed in Guwahati flash floods

The capital had no outlet for water into the Brahmaputra and Bharalu

Guwahati: Eight people were killed due to electrocution and landslides triggered by incessant rains here as National Disaster Response Force was called in to rescue marooned people in the city, whose most parts are inundated.

One person who was washed away in the Bharalu river, was missing, police sources said. The capital city turned into a sea as there was no outlet for the waters into the adjacent rivers Brahmaputra and Bharalu, the sources said.

A government employee, Dinesh Das, was electrocuted in the water logged MLA Hostel in the Capital Complex in Dispur area. Prafulla Das, deputy director of Arunachal Pradesh cultural affairs department was electrocuted when he attempted to switch off the inverter at his residence.
