Hyderabad: Allotments to PG medical seats during counselling since Wednesday were cancelled after students raised objections about the seat matrix. The objections were raised during counselling for students from the reserved categories (BC, SC and ST) on Friday. Parents and students alleged large-scale errors in preparation of the seat matrix, which counselling officials also admitted to.

NTR University of Health Sciences officials said seat allotments had been cancelled and counselling would begin again from June 29, although an announcement is yet to be made. However, students who went for counselling on Friday have been asked to come back on Saturday. NTRUHS rector Dr M.V. Ramanamma said fresh counselling would be held with a new seat matrix.

Students from all regions had objected to the seat matrix. While 15 per cent of PG seats in medical colleges from all three regions — Telangana, Andhra and Rayalaseema — are meant for both local and non-local students, some candidates calculated that only about 11 per cent of total seats were open in the Andhra region to Telangana and Rayalaseema students.

Objections were raised when a BC student from the Andhra region, attending counselling again for reserved students on Friday, opted for an orthopaedics seat in the Osmania Medical College under the 15 per cent non-local quota. Telangana students objected to it as they were not being offered a equivalent orthopaedic seat in the Andhra Medical College.
