Shoaib Akhtar continues to deny his 'secret' marriage to a 20-year-old
Court registrar ‘surprised’ with Shoaib Akhtar's bouncer
Mumbai: Shoaib Akhtar's continuous denial about his reported marriage with a 20-year-girl has surprised the Court Registrar Mohammad Qasim Qayyan in Haripur.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Pakistan, he says, "I am totally surprised with pace bowler's bouncer (denial). The nikah (marriage) took place in my presence at the residence of Mushtaq Khan, the businessman in this town. The nikah was read by Moulavi Shabbir Khan at girl's Tanoly House here in the presence of close relatives of Shoaib Akhtar and Rubab Khan."
"It is understandable when Shoaib had initially denied the news that the girl was minor, but there is no reason for his denial now when the fact is that the girl is of the age 20-year of age as she was born in 1994", the registrar added.
"In my 20-year career as Court Registrar, I have attended hundreds of marriages but this was the first celebrity-cricketer of whom I am fortunate enough to have witnessed this marriage".
"Yes, the age difference of about 18 years between the couple is notable but I understand the girl's father was happy to have celebrity cricketer as his son-in-law", the registrar added.
"The fact is also that the beautiful girl was chosen by Shoaib's mother but Shoaib has accepted the proposal. He was happy and glad at the marriage".
"I wish couple to live peacefully and a happy time ahead", the registrar concluded.
Earlier following the reports in media about his marriage, Shoaib Akhatar had tweeted,
"I would like to confirm that I'm not getting married to 17 year old girl, there is absolutely no truth in the story being reported..(Contd.)
