14 from Andhra Pradesh feared dead
Workers from mandals had migrated to Chennai and were working in construction sector
Vizianagaram: Nearly 14 people from Vizianagaram district are feared dead and 20 others were injured when an under construction 11-storey building collapsed near suburban Porur in Chennai of Tamil Nadu.
According to reports, workers from Makkuva, Badangi and few mandals in the district had migrated to Chennai and were working in the construction sector. Sources said that the workers gathered at the construction site to get their weekly payments on Saturday evening when the building collapsed.
Officials in Vizianagaram district are yet to confirm the number of deaths as they suspect that some workers are trapped under the debris. Vizianagaram superintendent of police Tafseer Iqbal said that they are yet to get concrete information about the deaths in the incident and waiting for more details from Chennai police.
Based on reports, home minister N. Chinna Rajappa made a phone call to Vizianagaram collector Kantilal Dande to set up a control room at Collectorate and prepare a list of trapped workers in the incident.
