Hyderabad: Nearly 200 applications for setting up different industries in Telangana are gathering dust with the industries department, thanks to the apathy of the Centre in allotting ‘state registration code’ for nearly a month.

Industry proposals worth below Rs 10 crore have to be registered at the district level, and those over Rs 10 crore at the state level. The registration code number of the undivided state was allotted to Andhra Pradesh. With no registration code for Telangana, the industries department has halted the registration process leaving entrepreneurs in the lurch.

The Centre allots a unique registration code to each state. Though Telangana was formed on June 2, it has not got its registration code. On the other hand, the registrations in AP are going smooth with the allotment of the undivided state code number 28.

Telangana trade union leaders complained that this has been sending ‘wrong signals’ to the industrial sector, as no investor is coming forward to set up industries in Telangana, while there is huge demand to set up industries in AP. Over 300 registrations have been made in AP while it is nil in Telangana.
