Core banking system failed as the main server at Bengaluru developed problems

Hyderabad: Senior citizens and pensioners have been facing a major problem as transactions like pensions, postal savings, recurring deposits and pensioners’ provident fund connected to core banking solutions at the Secunderabad Head Post Office are being delayed since many weeks now.

In June, transactions were conducted only for a week. Counters remained closed with a notice saying that the central server is down, resulting in many senior citizens waiting for hours.

Core banking solutions were introduced four months ago at the Abids General Post Office, Khairatabad Head Post Office, Secunderabad Head Post Office and the Jubilee Hills Post Office.

The public were asked to link all their MIS and SCSS to accounts for transferring the interests. But, when they approached the post office for conducting transactions, they were told that the central server in Bengaluru had problems and nothing can be done about it from here.

“Many people like us depend on this amount, and it is very difficult for senior citizens to keep visiting the post office frequently. I wish the authorities looked into this matter,  as soon as possible. I went on June 25, 26, and 27 and the same message about the central server being down was put up. Last month post office transactions were conducted only for a week,” said  Sai Kumar, an account holder of the Head Post Office,

Another senior citizen said, “This is our only source of income. If this is delayed, we have no other means. Server problems are internal glitches and the government has to ensure that they are resolved immediately”.

An official from the Secunderabad head post office said, "What can we do if the server is down. We have filed a complaint, and it will be resolved.”
