Telangana to reclaim land for infrastructure development
Women’s security and improved surveillance are top priorities
Hyderabad: All government lands, including the Gokul trust land in Hafeezpet and the controversial Gurukul land, are to be reclaimed by the state government, to develop infrastructure.
There are plans to shift Chanchalguda jail and the Hyderabad Race Course outside the city, as the government feels they cannot remain in the middle of the city. The land occupied by the two is to be used for housing or educational institutions.
IT minister K.T. Rama Rao told this newspaper, “We aim to make Hyderabad a global city. Water supply, sewerage, roads and transport, power, infrastructure, employment, education and health sectors will be revamped.”
The city needs to be expanded to three times its size if it is to be decongested. Starting with security, the Hyderabad police has to become people friendly. Directives have been issued to the law and order sector to attend to any incident within 10-15 minutes.
Proactive policing is also to be implemented. Women’s security and improved surveillance are top priorities. The government will invite manufacturing units to set up shop in the state so that people do not migrate to other states.
Hyderabad will be upgraded to international standards and will be a model city in the next 20 years. Major heritage structures in the city are to be protected.
