Hyderabad: Two people from Andhra Pradesh were rescued following the collapse of an under-construction multi-storeyed building in Chennai and have been admitted to hospital. Officials said their condition was stable.

As part of the ongoing rescue operations, three persons were pulled out alive, a senior government official said. The death toll in the mishap, however, rose to 28 as eight more bodies were recovered on Tuesday.

A total of 26 persons have been rescued as the operations entered the fourth day. Six persons, including two owners and two engineers, have been arrested under various Sections of the IPC in connection with the building collapse.

“One man named Mahesh was rescued along with two others. He told us that several other persons, including his wife, are still alive under the rubble,” an official said. “We are very hopeful now,” the official added. The director of public health, Kulandaisamy, said there were indications that the first and ground floors had not fully crumbled.
