Bengaluru: Policemen continue to be the target of the high and mighty in our city. After three youngsters threatened traffic policemen and dropped names to escape penalties for overspeeding on city roads in their high-end cars on Sunday, it was the turn of a Congress MLA and his men to physically assault and threaten two police constables, who tried to question them for partying beyond the deadline on Tuesday night.
The two constables, attached to the Cubbon Park police station, have filed a criminal complaint against Hungund MLA Vijayanand S. Kashappanavar and five others for assault and intimidation, and preventing them from discharging their duty.
The MLA, who was celebrating his birthday at a bar in UB City, and his friends had allegedly forced the bar staff to keep serving them liquor beyond the 11.30 pm deadline and were playing music loud.
The two police constables, Kiran Kumar and Prashanth Naik, arrived at the bar after they were alerted about the party. When Kiran tried to film the happenings on his mobile phone, Mr Kashappanavar’s aide, Some Gowda, who is said to be a rowdy, and others pounced on him.
