Most murders in Andhra Pradesh due to affairs
AP topped the number of such murders with 385 registered cases in 2013
Hyderabad: Most of the murders that occurred in undivided AP were due to extra-marital or love affairs. At least one person was killed every day in the state due to these reasons in the last one year.
Compared to other states, undivided AP topped the number of such murders with 385 registered cases in 2013, the NCRB data revealed. More than 15 per cent of killings in the state were by vindictive spouses, sexual partners, or parents of lovers.
The NCRB data revealed that 2,484 murder cases have been registered in the state last year. The vengeance of a partner cheated in marriage, and the vendetta of rejected lovers in pre-marital relationships spilled more blood in the state than any other causes like political, financial or property disputes.
“Most of these killings were by either husbands or wives to eliminate his or her cheating partner and the paramour. There are also cases in which a marital partner has been killed by the husband or the wife to secure a relationship with a paramour,” said a senior police official from Hyderabad.
Tamil Nadu recorded the second highest murders due to sexual causes, and love affairs with 316 cases. The north-eastern states Sikkim, Nagaland and Manipur recorded no such murders in the past year.
In undivided AP 240 people were killed by robbers, while 152 murders have occurred due to property disputes. As many as 230 killings happened due to personal reasons, and 15 victims were murdered suspecting witchcraft. Political killing totaling 12 have also taken place in the state in 2013, NCRB data revealed.
