Hyderabad: Small spells of showers in a few districts on Wednesday failed to bring respite from the rising mercury levels in both states. Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Guntur, Kurnool, Prakasam and Krishna of Andhra Pradesh and Nalgonda and Warangal of Telangana State.

The maximum temperatures rose by more than 6-7ºC on Wednesday, with Nellore, Ongole, Masulipatnam and Rentachintala recording temperatures as high as 42-43ºC, said  Met officials.

The Meteorological department has issued a heat wave warning for the next 24 hours indicating the continuance of severe heat wave conditions in districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of Andhra Pradesh and also in parts of Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Warangal of Telangana.

However, it rained at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema.

The IMD officials said , “A low pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards. This is likely to create favourable conditions for monsoon. There will be intense gale storms for the next 48 hours in some parts of both the regions.”
