Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government has agreed in principle to create 17 new urban mandals in the state. The revenue department in a power presentation to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, proposed setting up of 17 new urban mandals in major cities like Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and other cities for administration and implementation of government schemes effectively.

Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada will have two more urban mandals each in addition to existing mandals. Both cities will have four mandals each. At present, Visakhapatnam has only two mandals, Visakhapatnam urban and rural mandals.

The revenue department has proposed to create two more urban mandals in the city. Vijayawada also has urban and rural mandals at present, but the revenue department has proposed two more urban mandals.

In Guntur district, Guntur and Tenali have only one mandal each and, now Guntur will be divided into two mandals. In Tenali, one urban mandal will be created. In Rayalaseema region one more urban mandal each will be created in Chittoor, Tirupati, Anantapur Kadapa and Kurnool.

Srikakulam and Vijayanagaram will get one more mandal each in addition to the existing mandals. In East and West Godavari districts, Rajahmundry and Eluru each will get one urban mandal. The revenue officials said in the next cabinet meeting the government likely to take a decision in this effect.
