Bengaluru: The opposition BJP members on Friday protested in the Legislative Assembly against the alleged assault of two policemen by Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar in the city recently.

The opposition party members began to raise slogans and Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa adjourned the House for half an hour. When it re-assembled, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that in his 30 years of experience in the House, at no point had question hour been suspended and asked Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar to remain seated while he spoke.

But when Mr Shettar did not oblige and instead retorted that many things had happened in the House in the past, Mr Siddaramaiah shouted: “Yes, there were incidents of members watching porn movies in the House and a minister raped a woman. What happened to the Halappa case?”

“Halappa was removed. You broke the door of Vidhana Soudha and your members tried to assault the Speaker,” shot back Mr Shettar. In the din that followed, nothing could be heard.

Mr Thimmappa unsuccessfully tried to resume question hour but gave it up after Mr Ramesh Kumar requested him to adjourn the House as it was not in order.
