Kolkata student who took on liquor mafia found dead; BJP calls for bandh
TC Parishad claimed the involvement of CPI(M) and BJP in his murder
Kolkata: One person was arrested on Sunday in connection with the brutal killing of a college student, who had protested against illicit liquor and drug dens in his locality at Duttapukur in North 24 Parganas district.
Anup Talukdat, who was one of the accused named in the FIR, was arrested in a raid in the area on the charges of kidnapping and murdering Sourav Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee said.
Sourav's body, which was severed into several pieces, was found between Bamungachi and Duttapukur railway stations in the morning on Saturday. The 21-year-old student was kidnapped by a gang in front of his house.
It was being alleged that Sourav was killed as he had started a drive against hooch dens run by Shyamal Karmakar, the prime accused in the case, who is absconding.
Mukherjee, however, said investigation was on to know the motive of the crime and raids would be conducted to arrest the other accused persons.
Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad on Saturday claimed that Chowdhury was its member and alleged the involvement of the CPI(M) and BJP in his murder.
The two parties, however, denied the charge.
The BJP has called a 12-hour bandh on Sunday to protest Sourav's death.
