Kathmandu: Unable to bear Brazil's humiliating rout in FIFA World Cup 2014, a 15-year-old Nepali girl who was also a diehard Brazil fan committed suicide on Wednesday.

Brazil lost their aura and Brazilian football its mystique after a 7-1 defeat against Germany in the World Cup semi-final.

According to Nepal police, Pragya Thapa from Sunsari district in east Nepal hanged herself on Wednesday morning after her friends teased her over Brazil’s loss.

A class 10th student, Pragya was deeply hurt by comments against Brazil by her friends and family.

"She (Pragya) was anxious to see Brazil in the final but it went down to Germany. Some of her friends started teasing her for supporting Brazil. Later in the morning, she took such an extreme measure hanging herself in her own room," Sharad Thapa, a Nepal Police inspector, said after preliminary investigation.

Pragya was living with her grandparents and her father works in the Gulf. She had a brief interaction with her friends about the game before taking the extreme measure.

Meanwhile, the 20th edition of the World Cup is destroying reputations with a vengeance.

Not many would have predicted such a huge margin of their win over Brazil. Brazilians, on the other hand, were quite sure that the host nation would beat Germany and step closer to their sixth World Cup title.
