AIADMK may be offered Deputy Speaker post in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI: The BJP Government will take a final call on formally offering the post of deputy speaker to the AIADMK, the second largest party in Lok Sabha, after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan takes a decision on whether the Congress qualifies to be the principal Opposition party.

Sources in the government on Saturday said that there was no hurry in holding elections for the post of deputy Speaker as Mrs Mahajan is yet to decide on the Congress’ claim to main Opposition.

The source added that  the deputy Speaker’s post could go to the AIADMK in the event of the Congress getting the status of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
