Gem stones deposits found in Odisha river

Deposits of topaz, zircon, moon stone and agate found in Boudh-Ramgarh area

Bhubaneswar: Geological survey has revealed deposits of a variety of gem stones, gold and diamond in Odisha’s Boudh district, nearly 200 km from here.

According to Odisha’s steel and mines minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick, there had been traces of gold deposits along river beds of Mahanadi and Tel rivers in Kudagan, Janhapanka and Ramgarh areas of Boudh district.

However, the volumes of gold deposits in these areas has not been ascertained, the minister said. Mr Mallick added that deposits of topaz, zircon, moon stone and agate were also found in Boudh-Ramgarh area. Similarly, garnet, and tourmaline stones were traced in Boudh-Kantamal area and blue and green tourmaline were found in Baragochha.

Besides, the district also has deposits of manganese in Sitalapani and Dhebermal areas, zeolite deposits in Baisipada, Ramgarh, Krushna-mohanpur and Radhanagar, and pegmatite deposits in Kalasulia, Gopalpur, Sakamala, Kanapa, Bijamari.
