Hyderabad: Looks like the Water Board has given up on restoring the dug up stretches across the city.

With the GHMC being responsible for only the work that comes under its departments, residents of Malkajgiri, Laldarwaza, Uppuguda, Sainikpuri, Gagan Mahal, Toli Chowki etc. are suffering due to the inefficiency in the works carried out by the civic bodies.

Either the roads have been dug up and left in the same state or have been left in a bad state after sewerage or water pipelines have been laid.
“It has been about two weeks that the road has been dug, but no work has been carried out since then, the residents are facing a lot of problems due to it,” said Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Ramachandra enclave.

“It has been a few years that the road in our colony has not been restored and all our complaints go in vain. The bigger road near Uppuguda was also dug up for laying water lines, but it has not been restored even after six months and continues to plague commuters,” said C.T. Bhavana, an IT professional from Shivaganga Nagar.

“If the issue or problem is under the GHMC, it is ensured that it  will be solved immediately. But if it is due to Water Board activities, we cannot help unless the amount is paid to us,” said Somesh Kumar, commissioner GHMC.

An important stretch on one side of the Toli Chowki flyover, which is under construction, has become a dangerous area to drive on, as no restoration work has been done in six months since the Krishna Phase III pipelines were laid.

“If half the road is restored, it would be spoilt again due to the other half that is in progress. while the charges for the restoration have been deposited with the GHMC and R&B, the restoration will take time,” said Rameshwar Rao, director operations, Water Board.
