MMTS phase II project to commence
Project is critical as it will strengthen the railway infrastructure in the twin cities
Hyderabad: Work on the much awaited MMTS phase-II project in the twin cities will commence this month. The joint venture partners, who have been awarded this prestigious project, deposited the requisite performance guarantee amount with M/s Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) Limited a few days back. With this, the project work will start in July, according to a decision taken at a high-level review meeting on Monday.
The project is critical as it will strengthen the railway infrastructure in the twin cities. The major work under phase-II of the project will include airport connectivity from Falaknuma-Umdanagar to the Shamshabad airport, doubling and electrification of the Sanathnagar-Moula Ali line, quadrupling of the Moula Ali-Ghatkesar line, doubling and electrification of the Moula Ali-Malkajgiri-Sitafalmandi line and the Bolarum-Medchal line, electrification and remodeling of the Secunderabad– Bolarum line, and restoration of the Telapur–Patancheru track.
The present estimated cost is Rs 817 crore.
On completion, this project will enable running of more suburban passenger services, and also help in easing the current operational constraints being faced in and around Secunderabad railway complex here.
In addition to MMTS phase-II project, doubling and electrification of Vijayawada – Gudivada/Machlipatnam – Bhimavaram/Narsapur – Nidadavolu, Tenali – Guntur sections and electrification of Gooty – Dharmavaram and Wadi - Raichur sections will be taken up in the future.
