Reports and rumours about an iPhone killer smartphone from Samsung are doing its rounds on the internet. According to the reports, the Korean smartphone giant is readying a premium smartphone with a metal chassis, which could compete with Apple’s iPhones.

The smartphone in the picture is the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and is reported to have either a 4.7-inch or a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with an Exynos octa-core processor underneath the hood. The smartphone is also said to be slimmer than usual, standing at 6mm.

Reports are also stating that the so-called Samsung Galaxy Alpha would launch in August, a few weeks before Apple will unveil the next flagship, the iPhone 6.

If the reports are true, the fact will still remain if the smartphone can actually compete with the iPhone. Apple’s iPhones are known to be of high standards with an almost-flawless operating system, the iOS, which is heavily tuned and compatible with the hardware within. The iOS married to the iPhone’s chip is like a match made in heaven. iPhone users and smartphone enthusiasts who have witnessed the difference in iPhone’s performances (as compared to other rival operating systems) would agree that the iOS is almost an untouchable platform.

However, the facts will only be confirmed when the Galaxy device is made public. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha might have a premium look, but will the performance be at par? Only time can tell. Other premium looking smartphones have also been released by several brands. HTC, Gionee, Xiaomi and a few more are a few others who sport a metal frame with a powerful hardware.
