Hyderabad: The GHMC town planning department is a cesspool of corruption. Be it granting building permission or issuance of occupancy certificates, only money talks here.

It has been alleged that for every illegal slab, the town planning officer charges Rs 50,000. Almost Rs 20,000 from the amount goes to the local corporator. Once the planning inspector spots an unauthorised under-construction site, a notice is issued to demolish it. Then the bribe demand is made to the private builders. Not a single brick is laid without the knowledge of the planning inspector.

Sources said the department is aware of the employees who advise builders on how to approach the courts after receiving the notices.

Moreover, despite pending disciplinary charges against more than half a dozen grade-III officers, the GHMC in 2013 promoted them as town planning assistants.

Citizens can take pictures of unauthorised construction and upload on the website http://210.212.212.123/ghmc/csp/publicindex. They can also complain against the town planning officer.
